David Smellie, partner in the Corporate and Commercial team will be part of Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce’s (TVCC) delegation to the Kansai region in Japan next week (15th – 19th January 2018). Kansai is known for its high concentration of world-class manufacturing companies, Universities and research institutions. It is also one of the largest hubs for innovation, development and production in energy-related industries.
David Smellie explains why B P Collins is co-sponsoring and participating in this year’s mission after being part of the delegation in 2015:
“B P Collins recognises the unique opportunities the trade mission offers to UK businesses looking to develop working relationships with Japanese companies in the Kansai region. We have seen first hand how taking a long term approach to building business relationships with Japanese businesses can lead to exciting prospects for UK businesses and the ability to develop those relationships on a face to face basis is an opportunity that does not often arise.
For in excess of 20 years we have built up a huge amount of experience in advising Japanese companies who are based in Japan and would like to expand their businesses to the UK market, as well as those companies who are already established in the UK and would like to develop their businesses in the Thames Valley.
“Aside from B P Collins’ commercial approach, strategic awareness and pragmatism, it has every practice that a business needs under one roof, including Business Immigration, Corporate and Commercial, Employment and Commercial Property. If a business has multiple requirements – from ensuring its Japanese executives can work in the UK through to drafting a contract – each practice will know what the other is doing – allowing for a seamless, cost effective and efficient service.”
He adds:
“In addition to our detailed knowledge of the law, and excellent contacts in the commercial sector, we are very aware of the economic and political impact on international businesses coming to the UK and we use this combined knowledge to work in partnership with a company to help them achieve their goals.
“We wish all of the delegates every possible success in the mission.
According to TVCC:
“This is our second Trade Mission from the Thames Valley, which is the leading technology region in the UK. This time we are focusing on the key sectors of Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and renewables. This visit reflects a commitment to collaborate and share opportunities for open innovation and technology partnerships with the objective of establishing new commercial ventures and friendships.”
B P Collins’ commercial practices have been independently awarded top tier rankings in the Thames Valley region by the UK’s top legal directories – Chambers UK and Legal 500. It also has a range of specialisms including Business Immigration and Environment whose team advise several green tech, waste management and renewable energy businesses. It too has been ranked the best in the region.
