The trainee programme is of strategic importance in sourcing and developing our future leaders and a number of our current partners and senior associates trained with the firm. Our training partner David Smellie in conjunction with our HR Manager, Jacqui Symons, is responsible for recruiting trainees and managing the programme.

What to expect

Embarking on a career in law is the start of a long but hugely rewarding journey and B P Collins makes every effort to ensure this a worthwhile and enjoyable experience.

Whether joining one of our law insight days or commencing your graduate training, you’ll be given the opportunity to learn invaluable skills from dedicated and supportive practitioners who genuinely care about supporting and mentoring new talent.

Graduate programme

Many of our leadership team, including our Senior Partner, Simon Deans, started their legal careers as trainees with the firm.

Trainees play an active and important role in each team. Our objective is to provide stimulating and challenging work with an emphasis on direct client contact and hands-on experience from an early stage.

Our trainees receive full support and guidance throughout their contracts from their seat supervisor, training partner and the HR team. In each of their seats they will work closely under the supervision of a dedicated supervisor, who will be a partner or senior associate from within the team.

Our trainees also get involved in the firm’s social and marketing events with the aim of establishing social and business networks within the local community.

It’s not all about work, we have an active social committee which puts on different events each month and regularly supports charities and other organisations through volunteering.

Application process

The first stage of the process is an online application form which includes a CV and cover letter. You should use this stage to tell us about your grades at school/college and university, your work experience, your hobbies and interests outside of work, why you’ve chosen a career in law and why you feel you would be a good fit for B P Collins.

Successful candidates will be invited to attend an initial screening interview with a member of the HR team and to complete a number of assessments.

The final stage of the process will be an assessment day at our office in Gerrards Cross during which shortlisted candidates will take part in a scenario exercise, deliver a short presentation on a non-law related subject, and attend an interview with two of the partners.
