Rubin is a senior associate in the firm’s criminal law team.  

Rubin joined B P Collins in August 2024 having previously been a director in the criminal law department of a national firm. He has over 20 years of criminal defence experience, some of which he gained while working for a leading criminal defence firm.

Rubin has previously been recognised as a Leading Lawyer by Chambers UK and Legal 500.

Rubin is predominantly a criminal practitioner however he has extensive knowledge of other practice areas such as judicial review.

Rubin became a Higher Court Advocate in early 2007 and can practice in all criminal courts.

Specialism

Rubin has expertise in criminal law and procedural experience ranging from minor road traffic offences to murder, sexual offences, extradition and all serious complex crime including large-scale drug conspiracies.

Rubin has extensive knowledge in all matters relating to bribery and corruption investigations and prosecutions conducted by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO).

Companies seek comprehensive advice from Rubin on the Bribery and Corruption Act and he has represented individuals at all levels including CEOs and directors with investigations from the SFO.

His expertise includes advising clients with potential criminal breaches of Houses in Multiple Occupancy (HMO’s), Noise Abatement Notices, Tree Preservation Orders (TPO’s) and the Food Standards Agency and Trading Standards. He has negotiated most issues with local authorities, avoiding matters going to court.

Experience

Rubin has undertaken numerous high-profile cases during his career, many of which received extensive media coverage, including, during the London riots in August 2011, he represented a number of the defendants arrested as part of Operation Withern. He also took part in Operation Overt, one of the longest running and largest terrorist trials in the UK, involving a conspiracy to detonate bombs on transatlantic planes.

Rubin was part of a team that worked on one of the largest frauds in UK history involving allegations of a price fixing cartel by various drug companies supplying the NHS. Rubin’s eye for detail helped deliver evidence that made the trial eventually collapse.

At individual and company level Rubin has represented individuals from Boeing as well as companies being investigated for billion dollar contracts in Iraq, the UAE as well as north African countries including Morocco.

Rubin has assisted several clients in challenging Disclosure and Barring Decisions (DBS) and is also able to Judicially Review such decisions where applicable.

In 2024 Rubin won a settlement for a client from the metropolitan police for an investigation that had been pending for over 7 years.

Rubin has spent the majority of his career representing individuals in the criminal justice system. A notable case includes an au pair accused of the death of a baby. With Rubin’s support, and thorough approach to presenting the evidence, the defendant was found not guilty of murder and manslaughter.

Other achievements 

Rubin regularly gives lectures on criminal law topics and writes articles for local and national media.. He is a mentor as part of the National Mentoring Scheme.

Outside the office

Rubin regularly participates in the London to Brighton Bike Ride raising money for various charities including Cancer Research, Macmillan Cancer Support , Mind and the British Heart Foundation.
