Mike is an associate solicitor in the dispute resolution team.
Specialism
Mike specialises in all types of commercial litigation and dispute resolution with a particular focus on construction disputes, contractual disputes and matters of corporate divorce including shareholder and director disputes.
Experience
Mike undertook his training contract with the firm and qualified into the dispute resolution team in January 2020. He was promoted to associate in May 2023.
Prior to joining B P Collins, Mike worked in-house for a privately owned business based in Beaconsfield.
Mike has broad experience in a variety of commercial and construction disputes. On the construction side, he has significant experience in relation to claims arising out of defective works (including for insurer clients) and, in particular, those relating to fire safety. He also deals with claims for variations, extensions of time and loss and expense.
Mike’s commercial disputes experience encompasses all manner of contractual disputes, as well as shareholder and director disputes. His time as an in-house lawyer at a privately-owned business prior to joining the firm means that he understands his clients’ objectives and the commercial pressures they face.
Mike’s recent experience includes:
• Acting for the contractor in relation to a claim for defective works, raising issues relating to the Defective Premises Act 1972 and misrepresentation.
• Acting for an international, UK-based, company specialising in the design, development and manufacturing of automotive anti-theft devices in relation to a claim for breach of contract arising out of an alleged oral agreement, with a complex factual background including various allegations relating to forged documentation.
• Acting as part of the legal team for an insurer client in relation to an 8-figure dispute with a developer involving alleged fire safety defects at multiple large developments.
• Acting as part of the legal team for a claimant manufacturing client in relation to a multi-million pound claim in contract and negligence arising out of the supply of defective adhesive.
Outside the office
Outside of work, Mike has a particular passion for live music and tries to make it to as many festivals and concerts as he can throughout the year. He has also inherited his father’s love of motoring, and they regularly attend the Le Mans Classic and various events at Goodwood.
