Assault allegations can range from common assault to assault occasioning grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and sexual assault. Assaults are categorised by the level of injury sustained. When an assault is being investigated, the police will take a number of factors into account such as if there was physical contact, if the injuries sustained were intentional and the gravity of the injuries. Our criminal defence solicitors are on hand to help you understand and defend yourself against the allegations being made.

Convicted of assault

If convicted of assault, the Magistrates can impose a maximum sentence of six months in custody. If convicted in the Crown Court for actual bodily harm (ABH), the maximum sentence is five years imprisonment for assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent.

Accused of assault

If you have been accused of an assault, our team of solicitors will be able to advise you throughout the entire process, being by your side from interview through to the conclusion of any court case. We will represent you in interviews, deal confidentially with any concerns that may arise, prepare your case taking any necessary statements and evidence that will add weight to your defence and represent you in the Magistrates Court or Crown Court.

You will see the same solicitor from start to finish and we will always be on hand to answer your questions. We understand facing a criminal allegation can be extremely stressful and our aim is to alleviate any anxiety by clearly explaining the process to you.

As mentioned, we will be with you right from the beginning, including during any police interviews all the way through to appealing convictions if your case reaches that point, so you can be confident that your solicitor fully understands your case throughout.
